In 2020 Tamsin Hocking was called in to rescue a stock system for a fish wholesaler in Newlyn. The agency behind it had quoted £38,000 and ten weeks. By week thirty-one the invoices stood at £71,400, and the thing still couldn't print a delivery note.
The code wasn't the problem. Nobody had ever written down what finished looked like. So every meeting added a feature, every feature added a fortnight, and the client paid for all of it by the hour.
Getting it to ship took her eleven weeks. Deciding she wasn't going back to agency work in Bristol took one evening.
If we can't write it down, we can't price it. If we can't price it, we won't start.
She moved home to Par in 2021 with two engineers she'd sat beside for years, and built the studio around what that rescue taught her. Agree what done means before anyone opens an editor.
That is the whole method. Five paid days of discovery. A spec in plain English that your operations manager can read. A fixed price and a date. If you take the spec and hire someone cheaper, fine. You paid for it. It's yours.
Since then we've shipped 37 builds for firms from Truro to Tyneside. Two went out late: one by four days, one by nine. We still talk about the nine.
Trustsoft is run by Kweststudio Limited. Four people, one converted net loft on Harbour Road, and a whiteboard nobody is allowed to wipe.
